Through partnerships and capacity building, PPFN will strive to increase access to quality SRH services using gender-sensitive strategies that respond to the diverse socio-cultural factors in the country. In addition to men and women, PPFN’s efforts are directed to adolescents and young people in recognition of the vulnerabilities of this important sub-group. To be effective, PPFN will
adhere to the principles of active community participation and transparent management. |

In recent years, PPFN has been confronted by the challenge to adjust to the emergence of other SRH or related organizations. Along with partners such as Pathfinder, ARFH and WHARC, PPFN has been working to increase the number and develop the capabilities of private (commercial) sector organizations for SRH. No single organization is equivalent to PPFN. However, many are active in advocacy, and programmatic and geographic areas covered by PPFN.
The conclusions from our analysis of the internal and external environments confirm the relevance of PPFN’s existing vision and mission, with refinements. PPFN continues to be recognized as the major SRH NGO within its environment. The original mandate, narrowly focusing on family planning, has been expanded in the wake of ICPD, the Beijing International Women’s Conference and emergence of the HIV/AIDS pandemic to cover a broad-based SRH agenda that, however, focuses on safe motherhood, unsafe abortion, family planning, adolescent reproductive health, and STI and HIV/AIDS.
Within the long-term perspective, PPFN envisions a Nigeria where citizens freely and fully exercise their rights to a wide range of quality sexual and reproductive health and rights information and services.
Towards this vision, PPFN will continue to grow and develop as a national, non-profit and non-governmental federal organisation affiliated to IPPF. During the strategic plan period, PPFN will renew and revitalize its efforts at leading, coordinating and supporting the SRH NGO community to develop its pioneering and innovation capabilities to complement government efforts in SRH and rights. |
